Republic of Korea: Communications Commission issued Guidelines for the Protection of Users of Generative Artificial Intelligence Services including data protection measures

On 28 February 2025, the Korea Communications Commission adopted the Guidelines for User Protection of Generative AI Services. To mitigate privacy and personality rights risks, developers should create algorithms that can detect and control elements that may infringe on user rights. Further, the guidelines make it necessary to obtain user consent for data usage in training. Service providers should inform users about data practices, obtain consent, and ensure data is used safely and legitimately through internal monitoring.
