El Salvador: Law for the promotion of artificial intelligence and technologies (Decree No. 234) including intellectual property regulation was adopted by Legislative Assembly

On 26 February 2025, the Law for the promotion of artificial intelligence (AI) and technologies, including the establishment of ownership designations for intellectual property generated by AI was adopted by the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador. The Law provides that patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets resulting from AI research, development or innovation carried out in the territory of El Salvador would belong exclusively to the developing entity or person.
