El Salvador: Law for the promotion of artificial intelligence and technologies (Decree No. 234) including measures on establishment of national agency for artificial intelligence was adopted by Legislative Assembly

On 26 February 2025, the Law for the promotion of artificial intelligence and technologies, including the establishment of the national artificial intelligence agency (ANIA), was adopted by the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador. The ANIA will serve as the governing body responsible for promoting the development, research and application of AI and related technologies, operating with functional and technical autonomy under the Presidency of the Republic. It will oversee compliance with the law, implement technical assistance and training programmes, and coordinate government-led initiatives to promote the adoption of AI. In addition, ANIA will manage the National Registry of AI Development, Innovation and Application, regulate its operations, and work with the Ministry of Education to integrate AI education into all levels of the national curriculum with a comprehensive approach.
