Description

Office of Communications launched Online Safety Act enforcement programme

On 3 March 2025, the UK's Office of Communications (Ofcom) announced an enforcement program to ensure compliance with the UK's Online Safety Act, requiring certain online services, including large platforms and smaller high-risk sites, to submit illegal harms risk assessments by 31 March 2025. Providers must evaluate the likelihood of users encountering illegal content and document their findings. Ofcom has issued formal requests for these services and is prepared to take enforcement action, including fines or site blocking, against any provider that fails to comply by the deadline. This initiative aims to enhance online safety by ensuring that platforms implement appropriate measures to protect users from illegal content and activities.
