On 13 February 2025, an Act concerning Social Media and Online Services, Products, and Features was introduced in the Connecticut Senate. The Bill would mandate that by 1 January 2026, all social media platform owners would be required to incorporate an online safety center into their platforms. The safety center would provide cyberbullying prevention resources, information on accessing mental health services, and guidance on reporting harmful or unwanted behavior. The Bill would further require social media platforms to implement a cyberbullying policy detailing how reports of cyberbullying would be processed. Additionally, online services, products, or features directed at minors would need to include default settings that would prevent adults from sending unsolicited communications to minors. Platforms would also be required to avoid design features that could increase or sustain minors’ use of the service beyond typical engagement.
