Ethiopia: Electronic Transactions Proclamation (No. 1205/2020) including consumer protection regulation entered into force

On 30 June 2020, the Electronic Transactions Proclamation No. 1205/2020 entered into force. The law mandates e-commerce platforms to provide consumers with comprehensive information, including business details and transaction conditions. It allows consumers to review and correct transaction details and withdraw from transactions before confirming orders. Suppliers are required to offer secure payment systems and uphold customers' rights to cancel transactions within a specified period without penalty.
