On 15 August 2016, Law No. 88-13 on the Press and Publishing entered into force with a grace period. Those subject to this law's provisions at its publication in the Official Gazette (i.e. 15 August 2016) must comply with Section One within a maximum period of one year (i.e. 15 August 2017). The law requires publishers to refrain from disseminating content that is false, defamatory, or incites violence or hatred. It also mandates that media content must not threaten national security or violate public morality. The law outlines penalties for violations, which can include fines and the suspension of publishing licences.
