On 18 May 2020, the African Union adopted the Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa (2020-2030). The objective of this strategy is to establish a Digital Single Market in Africa by 2030, with a commitment to ensuring universal access to affordable broadband and digital services. The strategy places a particular emphasis on the promotion of digital sovereignty, inclusive economic growth, and the creation of employment opportunities. The strategy is built on foundational pillars such as enabling policy environments, digital infrastructure, skills development, and innovation. It targets critical sectors including digital industry, trade, governance, education, health, and agriculture, while addressing cross-cutting themes such as cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
