Description

European Commission issued request for information to Shein on illegal products and its recommender system

On 4 February 2025, the European Commission issued a request for information to Shein under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The request seeks internal documents and detailed information on the risks associated with illegal content and goods on Shein’s marketplace, the transparency of its recommender systems, and access to data for qualified researchers. It also requests information on measures taken to mitigate risks related to consumer protection, public health, user well-being, and data protection. Shein must respond by 27 February 2025. Based on its assessment, the Commission may formally open proceedings under Article 66 of the DSA.
