On 13 August 2021, the Open App Markets Act was introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives. The legislature contains rules that secure consumer interests as well as safeguard competition in app markets. The Bill targets all companies with more than 50 million U.S. users. If the Act is turned into law, companies that meet the aforementioned threshold would be required to ensure that their users can choose third-party applications or app stores, install applications through an app store of their choice, as well as have the option to delete preinstalled apps. These rules would be enforced by both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
