United States of America: Customs and Border Protection closes consultation on import tariff changes for low-value e-commerce shipments

Description

Customs and Border Protection closes consultation on import tariff changes for low-value e-commerce shipments

On 17 March 2025, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) closes its consultation on proposed changes to import tariffs for low-value e-commerce shipments. The proposed rule aims to exclude merchandise subject to Section 201, 232, and 301 tariffs from the de minimis exemption, which currently allows goods valued at USD 800 or less to enter the US duty-free. Furthermore, the proposed rules would require importers to submit additional data, including the Harmonized Tariff Schedule code, seller and purchaser details, and tracking information, to enhance supply chain visibility.
