Singapore: MTI statement on whether DeepSeek acquired US export-controlled Nvidia chips through intermediaries in Singapore

On 1 February 2025, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore (MTI) issued a press statement regarding allegations that DeepSeek acquired US export-controlled Nvidia chips through intermediaries in Singapore. In particular, the MTI cited Nvidia’s statement that there is no reason to believe that DeepSeek obtained any export-controlled products from Singapore. The MTI stated that it expects all US companies, including Nvidia, to comply with US export controls and domestic legislation.
