On 8 December 2021, the United Kingdom Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI) issued a roadmap outlining the steps that should be followed in the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) assurance ecosystem. The roadmap was developed as part of the UK’s National AI Strategy to identify and address the risks posed by AI with the end goal being the establishment of a high-class AI assurance industry. The plan lists the stakeholders' roles and responsibilities and establishes 6 areas of action, such as generating demand for assurance in the AI supply chain and setting accountabilities for the risks that it carries. The roadmap also identifies the creation of a competitive AI assurance market as a priority, as well as the development of regulatory standards in the area of AI assurance. Finally, the collaboration between the private sector and independent researchers for the development of assurance techniques and identification of AI risks shall be improved and supported.
