United States of America: Department of Justice filed lawsuit against Hewlett Packard Enterprise over proposed acquisition of Juniper Networks

Description

Department of Justice filed lawsuit against Hewlett Packard Enterprise over proposed acquisition of Juniper Networks

On 30 January 2025, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to block Hewlett Packard Enterprise's (HPE) proposed USD 14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks, a wireless networking technology provider. The Justice Department argues that this merger would eliminate competition between two of the top three wireless networking firms, leading to higher prices and reduced innovation for American businesses. HPE and Juniper are the second and third largest providers of enterprise-grade wireless local area network (WLAN) solutions in the US, and their merger would further consolidate an already concentrated market, leaving only two providers, the post-merger HPE and Cisco Systems. The lawsuit aims to prevent this consolidation, which the Justice Department believes would violate Section 7 of the Clayton Act and harm industries that rely on wireless technology.
