Australia: NSA-ACSC-CCCS-NCSC adopted guidelines on content credentials to strengthen multimedia integrity in generative artificial intelligence

Description

NSA-ACSC-CCCS-NCSC adopted guidelines on content credentials to strengthen multimedia integrity in generative artificial intelligence

On 30 January 2025, the National Security Agency (NSA), the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (CCCS), and United Kingdom National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) adopted guidelines on content credentials to strengthen multimedia integrity in generative artificial intelligence. The guidelines focus on verifying the authenticity of digital content through the use of content credentials. These guidelines recommend the adoption of cryptographically signed metadata, digital watermarks, and media fingerprinting systems to confirm the origin and modification history of media. By enabling the tracking of content, these measures help prevent misuse, such as impersonation and cyber threats, and protect content from unauthorised use in AI training. Durable content credentials are also recommended for enhanced protection against tampering.
