Law on the development of artificial intelligence (Bill No. No. 811/Lp14) was introduced to Parliament

On 21 January 2025, the Law on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) was introduced at the Parliament of Latvia. It aims to create a legal framework for AI collaboration between the public, private, and academic sectors while ensuring ethical, responsible, and secure AI applications. Provision is the establishment of the Latvian National Artificial Intelligence Centre, which will coordinate AI development, and investment, and promote Latvian language integration in AI models. The Centre will operate as a foundation, with governance shared by the government, industry, and universities, and its secretariat managed by the National Digital Development Agency.
