Introduced DETOUR (Deceptive Experiences to Online Users Reduction) Act

The DETOUR (Deceptive Experiences to Online Users Reduction) Act is introduced in the US Senate. The Bill prohibits large online platforms from designing user interfaces that hinder users' capacity to deny consent on the use of their personal data or that foster compulsive usage by children. Moreover, the Bill prohibits user segmentation and behavioural experiments without the explicit consent, whereby consent to the general terms of use is insufficient. In addition, large online platforms must disclose behavioural experiments and create an "Independent Review Board" to oversee such practices.
