United States of America: US President signs Executive Order on Removing Barriers to American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence

On 23 January 2025, the President of the United States signed an Executive Order on Removing Barriers to American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence aiming to sustain and enhance the country’s AI leadership and to develop AI systems that are free from ideological bias or engineered social agendas. To this end, it directs the development of an AI Action and orders all government agencies to revise and remove all policies and regulations adopted under the revoked Executive Order 14110. Finally, it orders the revision of the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) AI memoranda on the Federal Government’s acquisition and governance of AI.
