Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission opened investigation into Meta Platforms and WhatsApp over their alleged violations of antitrust laws, data protection regulations, and consumer protection acts

On 15 May 2021, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) initiated an investigation into Meta Platforms, Inc. and WhatsApp LLC, following concerns over potential violations of consumer rights and data protection laws. The investigation, conducted jointly with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) will investigate allegations regarding unauthorised data sharing, discriminatory practices, and abuse of market dominance.
