On 15 January 2025, the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKIK) issued a ruling in an investigation into mPay and Revolut Bank UAB for allegedly changing fees and contract terms unilaterally. The companies were found to have failed to provide information on a durable medium. The noncompliant practices included notifying consumers about fee changes and contract modifications via email links to web pages, rather than providing the information on a durable medium such as a PDF file directly. This approach did not guarantee the permanence and immutability of the content, as required by law. Additionally, mPay and Revolut Bank UAB did not include proper modification clauses in their contracts, which are necessary for making changes to ongoing agreements. As a result, both companies are required to refund consumers for any overcharged fees and offer additional benefits. mPay will provide a free monthly "GOLD" subscription plan, while Revolut Bank UAB will offer free upgrades to current plans and, in some cases, account credits equivalent to a month's subscription fee, along with additional cashback for purchases. Former clients and inactive users of mPay will also be eligible for refunds.
