Description

Communications Commission implemented Communications (Consumer Code of Practice) Regulations 2024 entered into force

On 30 July 2024, the Nigerian Communications (Consumer Code of Practice) Regulations, 2024, have been implemented following their publication in the official gazette on the same day. The regulations detail the procedures and standards for licensed communications operators to follow in preparing and implementing an approved Consumer Code of Practice. They require each licensee to develop and submit an individual consumer code of practice for approval by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Areas covered include the provision of accurate and up-to-date information to consumers, standards for advertising and representation of services, transparent and verifiable billing practices, and clear consumer obligations. The regulations also emphasise the protection of consumer information in accordance with data protection laws and establish complaint-handling mechanisms. Additionally, the NCC is responsible for monitoring compliance and enforcing penalties for non-adherence.
