On 2 December 2022, the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 including fair marketing and advertising requirement was introduced to the lower house of the Irish Parliament. The Act establishes rules for gambling advertising (ads). It provides that ads on social media or video-sharing platforms must target users subscribed to the licensee’s account and comply with regulations, with exceptions for charitable gambling ads that exclude business branding. Electronic ads require recipient consent, an opt-out option, and compliance with regulations, with exceptions for visible sponsorships at sporting events and charitable ads without branding. Ads must not exploit or appeal to children, promote excessive gambling, or mislead the public.
