On 20 September 2024, the Bill on safe digital environments for children and adolescents including data protection regulation was introduced at the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina. The bill requires companies marketing digital goods or services for adults to verify the identity of users through documentation and biometric methods. Access to these goods or services cannot proceed until identity verification is completed. Failure to comply with identity verification and age-checking obligations will result in sanctions, applied progressively based on the nature and severity of the offence, as well as the offender’s history, without prejudice to civil or criminal liabilities.
