United States of America: Implemented FCC order on improving effectiveness of robocall mitigation database (FCC-24-135)

Description

Implemented FCC order on improving effectiveness of robocall mitigation database (FCC-24-135)

On 2 March 2025, the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) order on improving the effectiveness of the robocall mitigation database (FCC-24-135) is implemented. The order includes filing requirements for the Robocall Mitigation Database to enhance compliance and awareness among voice service providers regarding their responsibilities to protect consumers. Providers must re-certify annually by 1 March and pay a USD 100 filing fee. These new rules mandate timely updates to company information, with fines of USD 10'000 for false or inaccurate submissions and USD 1'000 for outdated information. To improve the database's reliability and security, the FCC will establish a reporting mechanism, issue additional guidance, and implement two-factor authentication. This initiative follows the FCC's recent enforcement action against 2'411 non-compliant companies and has the support of 47 Attorneys General.
