Law on the Supervision of Online Intermediation Services and Internet Search Engines was adopted by Parliament of Lithuania

On 27 June 2024, the Parliament of Lithuania (Seimas) adopted the Law on the Supervision of Online Intermediation Services and Internet Search Engines. The Law is intended to implement Regulation (2019/1150) of the European Parliament and of the Council, which was introduced on 20 June 2019. The Competition Council of Lithuania is responsible for monitoring compliance with Regulation (EU) 2019/1150, investigating potential violations and applying sanctions. In addition, the Council will collaborate with other EU member state authorities and the European Commission to facilitate cross-border investigations. The Law establishes procedures for submitting complaints, conducting investigations, and imposing fines, with financial penalties ranging from EUR 300 to EUR 15'000. The Law also includes provisions on confidentiality, the rights of complainants and investigated entities, and the process for appealing decisions. The Law is set to take effect on 1 January 2025.
