Office of the Data Protection Commissioner fined Regus Kenya KES 5 million for breaches of data protection regulations

On 11 April 2023, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) issued a penalty notice against Regus Kenya imposing a penalty of KES 5 million for non-cooperation and failure to respond to multiple notifications. These included a Notification of Complaint dated 27 October 2022, a reminder dated 11 November 2022, and an Enforcement Notice dated 16 February 2023. The complaint alleged frequent spamming of automated improper information. Regus Kenya is obligated to pay the penalty, in accordance with Section 63 of the Data Protection Act and Regulation 20 of the Data Protection (Complaints Handling Procedure and Enforcement) Regulations.
