Description

Implemented cryptocurrency regulations in amending regulation on measures to prevent laundering proceeds of crime and financing of terrorism (Decision No. 9305)

On 25 February 2025, cryptocurrency regulations in amending regulation on measures to prevent laundering proceeds of crime and financing of terrorism entered into force. The regulation introduces obligations for crypto asset service providers. It requires detailed sender and recipient information for transfers above TL 15,000 including names, wallet addresses, and identification details including birth dates and identification numbers, with verification mandatory for sender details. For smaller transactions, similar information is required but without verification. Providers must ensure this information is securely transmitted along the transaction chain using approved technologies. Transfers involving unregistered wallets or foreign providers require declarations from customers with equivalent identification details. Incomplete or high-risk transfers may lead to additional documentation requests, restrictions, or termination of transactions.
