Implemented order designating Competition and Consumer Protection Commission as competent supervisory authority for compliance with the EU Data Governance Act Regulations (EU Regulation 2022/8688)

On 23 December 2024, the designation of Ireland's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) as competent authority under the EU Data Governance Act Regulations (EU Regulation 2022/8688) enters into force. The Regulations aim to boost data sharing and innovation while safeguarding privacy and sensitive information. It applies to entities involved in data intermediation services and data altruism across the European Union. The CCPC is responsible for managing notifications, maintaining registers of data altruism organisations, monitoring compliance, handling complaints, investigating breaches, and taking enforcement action when needed. The CCPC will also coordinate with the European Data Innovation Board and other relevant authorities.
