Egypt: National Telecom Regulatory Authority's Internet of Things (IoT) Framework including operational licensing requirement entered into force

On 13 January 2021, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) adopted the Internet of Things (IoT) Framework, including operational licensing requirements. The framework entered into force on the day of its issuance. Licences are granted by the NTRA to entities, including mobile service providers, IoT network operators, and IoT service providers. The licensing process involves financial commitments, such as upfront fees, annual fees, and performance bonds, ensuring that licensees are fiscally capable and committed to their obligations. Additionally, licences are subject to renewal periods and require compliance with technical and operational standards set by NTRA.
