United Kingdom: Closed consultation on IPO, DSIT and DCMS inquiry into copyright and Artificial Intelligence

On 25 February 2025, the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), and Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) closes the consultation on the UK’s legal framework for artificial intelligence (AI). The consultation aims to gather information and proposals to support trust and transparency between sectors, enhancing rights holders’ control over their work and the ability to receive payment for its use in model training and ensuring AI developers have access to high-quality training data. Proposed interventions include requiring transparency from AI developers about the content used and introducing a copyright exception for text and data mining.
