Australia: Adopted declaration on proactive approaches to privacy regulation following APPA Forum

On 27 November 2024, a declaration on proactive approaches to privacy regulation was adopted by data protection authorities at the 62nd Asian Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA) forum. The forum held on 26 to 27 November was attended by 17 APPA members from 13 countries or territories. Agreements at this forum included a collaborative effort to establish a unified framework for data protection, aiming to harmonise data protection standards and practices. Discussions reflected a commitment to enhance data privacy and security, facilitate safer cross-border data transfers, and foster trust between jurisdictions in the handling of personal information.
