Description

Introduced Public Procurement and Asset Disposal (Amendment) Bill, 2024

On 6 November 2024, the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal (Amendment) Bill 2024 was introduced to the National Assembly to amend the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act. The amendments reserve all contracts below KES 1 billion for local firms. For contracts exceeding this threshold, foreign firms must form joint ventures with local firms, ensuring that at least 30% of the contract value is allocated to the local partner. The Bill requires foreign tenderers in international procurements to source at least 40% of their supplies from Kenyan citizen contractors. Additionally, public entities are mandated to prioritise locally manufactured goods and services in procurement processes.
