Implemented Artificial Intelligence in Health Care Services Bill (AB 3030)

On 1 January 2025, the Artificial Intelligence in Health Care Services Bill enters into force. The Bill applies to healthcare providers, including hospitals, clinics, and private practices, using generative artificial intelligence (AI) for clinical communications. The Bill requires AI-generated content to include disclaimers notifying patients it was created by AI and providing instructions for contacting a human healthcare provider. The Bill excludes communications approved by licensed professionals and administrative uses such as appointment scheduling. Violations of the provisions of the Bill will be overseen by medical boards or enforced under the Health and Safety Code.
