On 19 November 2024, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) blocked an additional 1,812 illegal betting sites in Brazil that do not appear on its authorised list, as determined by monitoring conducted by the Prizes and Betting Secretariat (SPA). This follows two earlier block orders on 10 October 2024 and 31 October 2024, when the MOF blocked over 2'000 sites and more than 1,400 sites, respectively. The order emphasised that only companies included on the Ministry's authorised list are permitted to operate in Brazil. Currently, this list comprises 100 companies. The order aims to ensure compliance with existing laws regulating fixed-odds betting. It also clarified that bookmakers must pay a grant of BRL 30 million to operate in Brazil's regulated betting market from 1 January 2025 and adhere to rules against fraud, money laundering, and abusive advertising. Additionally, it specifies that companies not on the authorised list must submit documentation for permanent authorisation.
