On 1 November 2024, the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA) announced that it passed a resolution endorsing and encouraging the use of data protection certification mechanisms as tools to enhance privacy and data protection compliance tools globally. The resolution was passed at the 46th meeting held from 28 October 2024 to 1 November 2024. The GPA endorsed the use of approved certification mechanisms as a means for organisations to demonstrate compliance with privacy and data protection laws. Furthermore, GPA members were encouraged to advocate for the adoption of certification mechanisms within their jurisdictions. In addition, GPA members were encouraged to work through international fora to align on interoperable and high-standard criteria for certification, ensure robust and consistent accreditation processes, and strengthen oversight and enforcement of certification rules globally.
