Description

Adopted Singapore-EU declaration to strengthen collaboration on AI safety

On 20 November 2024, Singapore and the European Union formalised their collaboration on Artificial Intelligence (AI) through a new administrative arrangement. This agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the Digital Trust Centre (DTC) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), DG Connect, and the EU AI Office. Under the framework, the parties agree to share expertise and best practices in AI safety and conduct joint evaluations of general-purpose AI models to assess their capabilities, limitations, and risks. Additionally, the parties will develop new tools and benchmarks for assessment and standardisation activities for general-purpose AI and undertake joint research initiatives to advance safer AI systems. This arrangement builds on existing digital partnerships between the two parties, such as the EU-Singapore Digital Partnership (EUSDP) and the EU-Singapore Digital Trade Agreement (EUSDTA), and provides the foundation for further collaborations, including in areas such as online safety.
