Description

Adopted G20 Rio de Janeiro Leaders’ Declaration

On 18 November 2024, the G20 leaders issued a declaration addressing global challenges in artificial intelligence (AI). They emphasised the need for a pro-innovation regulatory and governance approach that upholds human rights, transparency, fairness, accountability, safety, ethics, bias mitigation, privacy, and data protection. The declaration called for international cooperation, leveraging the UN and other fora to incorporate perspectives from both developed and developing nations. Discussions highlighted worker concerns in AI development, welcomed the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers' decision to establish guidelines for safe and trustworthy AI in the workplace, and praised the efforts of the Digital Economy Worker Group and the High-Level Initiative/Task Force on Artificial Intelligence and Innovation under the upcoming South African Presidency. Leaders also advocated for responsible AI to enhance education, health outcomes, and women's empowerment.
