Canada: Opened Consultation on Modernisation of Broadcasting Act (S.C. 1991, c. 11)

On 15 November 2024, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) opened two public consultations, remaining open until 20 January 2025, about a modernisation of the Canada's broadcasting framework in line with the updated Broadcasting Act (S.C. 1991, c. 11). The first consultation seeks to redefine Canadian content for television and online streaming services to ensure the promotion and discoverability of Canadian and Indigenous stories. The second consultation aims to revise the regulatory framework for radio stations, granting them greater flexibility to meet community needs. These consultations are part of the CRTC's broader effort to adapt Canada's broadcasting regulations to the digital age, ensuring meaningful contributions from online streaming services and supporting radio stations in their community roles. Stakeholders are invited to participate through various submission methods, including online forms and direct communication with the CRTC.
