On 14 November 2024, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) adopted the roles and responsibilities framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in critical infrastructure. The framework provides voluntary guidelines for cloud and compute infrastructure providers, AI developers, and critical infrastructure owners and operators. The framework focuses on enhancing the safety and security of AI systems across the US's sixteen critical infrastructure sectors, including manufacturing, financial services, and information technology. It outlines responsibilities in areas such as securing environments, responsible design, data governance, safe deployment, and performance monitoring. The framework is published to complement the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights, Executive Order 14110 on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence. The framework aims to mitigate risks and promote transparency, information sharing, and best practices to safeguard critical systems.
