On 12 November 2024, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) issued a preliminary decision accepting a legal challenge filed by the Solidarity Party against Law No. 14,790/2023, which regulates fixed-odds betting in Brazil. This law, enacted on 30 December 2023, introduced a regulatory framework for fixed-odds betting, covering licensing, advertising, taxation, corporate and regulatory requirements, and social considerations. The STF accepted a legal challenge to the law from the Solidarity Party, determining the Ministry of Finance must immediately enact measures to prevent recipients of social programs, such as Bolsa Familia, a conditional cash transfer program, and the Continuous Benefit Payment, a benefit for elderly and disabled people, from using these funds to participate in fixed-odds betting.
