Turkiye: Implemented regulation on market surveillance and the inspection of products supplied on the market via remote communication tools

Description

Implemented regulation on market surveillance and the inspection of products supplied on the market via remote communication tools

On 1 April 2025, the Ministry of Trade’s regulations, which set out the procedures and principles for the sale of e-commerce products, enter into force. The regulation applies to products sold online that are targeted towards Turkish customers, either through advertising the product in the Turkish language, the sale of products for Turkish Lira, or the delivery of products to Turkish addresses. General principles include compliance with existing safety legislation and the requirement for a manufacturer, importer, or authorized service provider to be registered in Turkiye. E-commerce platforms hosting these products are required to facilitate compliance by allowing for the display of product safety information, promptly addressing content removal requests from regulators, providing a point of contact for product safety, and tracking product history in the supply chain. Sanctions from the government for non-compliance include fines, online content blocks, suspension of television and radio advertisements through national media service providers, and product recalls.
