UN members: Adopted UN resolution on the implications of artificial intelligence in military domain

On 6 November 2024, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly First Committee adopted a resolution on the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the military domain, proposed by the Netherlands and South Korea. The resolution addresses risks such as accountability for AI errors, trust in AI decision-making, and the prevention of an AI-driven arms race. Originating from the REAIM conferences in 2023 and 2024, the resolution outlines a framework for international standards governing AI in the military domain, including its procurement, operation and decommissioning.
