Description

Issued European Commission and Consumer Protection Cooperation Network coordinated preliminary finding following investigation into Temu

On 8 November 2024, the Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) Network, alongside the European Commission, formally notified the online marketplace Temu of an ongoing investigation into practices deemed potentially in violation of EU consumer protection laws. The action, led by national authorities from Belgium, Germany, and Ireland under the European Commission's coordination, investigates Temu's operations compliance with consumer protection regulations. These include allegations of fake discounts, pressure selling, forced gamification, and the provision of misleading information regarding consumer rights. The investigation also examines Temu's compliance with obligations for online marketplaces under the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the upcoming General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). Temu has been given one month to respond to these findings and propose how it will rectify the identified issues.
