Announced PIPC approval of self-regulatory code in online platform recruitment sector

On 4 November 2024, South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) adopted the public-private partnership self-regulatory code in the online platform recruitment sector. The code aims to improve the data protection standards for recruitment platforms. The code applies to the recruitment platform sector, including talent search, job posting, recruitment agency, and recruitment management services. The code mandates the implementation of secure authentication requiring mobile or email verification and data retention controls limiting personal information exposure to 90 days. The code also requires employers to delete reviewed resumes to meet disposal obligations and encrypted resume downloads to ensure data security.
