Issued MHA order to POFMA Office to issue targeted correction directions to Meta pertaining to alleged false statements on executions and drug trafficking

On 5 November 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore (MHA) issued an order to the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act Office (POFMA Office) to issue targeted correction directions to Meta Platforms. The order relates to the reposting of alleged false statements on Facebook and Instagram. The false statements, originally made by the Transformative Justice Collective regarding executions and drug trafficking charges in Singapore, were re-shared by individuals on 23 and 24 October 2024. The direction requires Meta to alert users who have seen the posts that they contain false information and to provide a link to the Government’s clarification.
