On 31 October 2024, the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission (CAC) launched a two-month campaign titled “Clear and Bright: Rectification of Information Content Issues in the Same City Section.” This campaign applies to platforms with location-based information, including social media, e-commerce, dating, and travel. It aims to address five issues, including hostility and regional antagonism, misinformation on local events, explicit content and promotion of illegal offline activities. The campaign encourages platforms to comply by enhancing their content moderation policies, adjusting recommendations, and removing harmful content. It was also highlighted that cyberspace departments will oversee implementation and ensure platforms follow the new standards.
