Issued NZSIS and NCSC guidance on secure innovation: security advice for emerging technology companies

On 29 October 2024, the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) and the Government Communications Security Bureau’s (GCSB) National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) released the guidance Secure Innovation: Security Advice for Emerging Technology Companies. The guidance provides information to New Zealand’s emerging technology sector, particularly tech start-ups, to defend against potential espionage and intellectual property theft. The guidance, developed with counterparts from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, presents a unified set of security principles intended to enhance resilience in the digital landscape. The guidance includes five principles of secure innovation aimed at helping companies recognise threats, protect their operational and technological environments, secure product development by design, verify trusted partnerships, and maintain security as the business grows.
