Description

Opened consultation on Saudi Arabia Media Law including licensing requirements

On 5 December 2023, the General Authority of Media Regulation (GAMR) closed its consultation on the draft Media Law. The Media Law would give the GAMR broad powers to regulate media content and activities and establish a licensing system for all media activity providers, including digital platforms. workers, both traditional and digital. Licenses can be granted, renewed, or revoked by the government, which also has the power to monitor content and take down anything deemed to violate its restrictions. These restrictions are broad and require the media to respect Islam, the King, and public order.
