Japan: Introduced 2021 Amendment to Act on the Protection of Personal Information (in Digital Society Formation and Transformation Act)

On 9 February 2021, the draft of the Digital Society Formation and Transformation Act is introduced in National Diet. The Act revises Articles 27 and 50 of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI). Particularly, Article 27 addresses the measures to be adopted when a corporation intends to provide personal data to a third party. On the other hand, the amendment of Article 50 introduces exemption provisions for local administrative agencies and academic research institutes.
