Closed consultation on Electronic Communications Amendment Bill 2022 including competition authority governance

On 31 August 2023, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) closed a public consultation on the Electronic Communications Amendment Bill 2022 including competition authority governance. The bill aims to enhance competition by granting the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) the authority to conduct competition assessments and market inquiries to identify and tackle anti-competitive practices. The bill seeks to enhance cooperation between ICASA and the Competition Commission of South Africa (CCSA) to implement pro-competitive remedies based on CCSA's findings.
